- High quality voice is transmitted over lesser bandwidth
- Normal PSTN samples the voice 8000 times in a second this eliminates a substantial part of the full range of spectrum audible to human ears. Compared to this the HD takes 16000 samples per second.
- HD supports transfer of sound upto a frequency of 7 khz. Normal PSTN supports upto 50 Hz only.
- Bandwidth required for HD is only 32 kbps. Whereas PSTN requires 64 kbps.
- HD utilizies the most popular wideband coders such as G.722, G.722.2, G.729.1, G.711.1 and Microsoft RTA.
